VocaScene helps signed-in users learn English while watching web videos. This policy explains what data the web app and Chrome extension process, why it is needed, and how users can request help or deletion.
Data We Collect
Account data: when you sign in, we receive basic profile information from your authentication provider, such as name or nickname, email address when provided, profile image, and provider account identifier.
Learning data: we store saved vocabulary, lookup results, definitions, watch progress, credit balances, referral or promo-code activity, and other product state required to provide your account.
Extension data: the extension stores your VocaScene connection token and configuration locally in Chrome storage. When you use lookup or subtitle translation, selected text, subtitles, page title, and page URL may be sent to VocaScene so the service can return definitions or translations.
Audio transcription data: when you explicitly start no-subtitle listening mode, Chrome captures audio from the current tab and sends it for realtime transcription using a short-lived session token. VocaScene uses the resulting transcript to power the subtitle overlay and records usage metadata such as model name and audio duration for cost control and abuse prevention.
Operational data: servers may record request metadata, errors, timestamps, IP-derived security signals, and usage counters to keep the service reliable and prevent abuse.
How We Use Data
We use data to authenticate users, run vocabulary lookup, translate subtitles, transcribe user-started tab audio, save learning history, enforce usage limits, provide credits, debug errors, and protect the service.
We do not sell user data. We do not use extension data for advertising or data-broker profiling.
Third-Party Services
VocaScene uses infrastructure and API providers to operate the product, including authentication providers, model providers for lookup, translation, and transcription, database hosting, application hosting, and object storage. These providers process data only as needed to provide the requested product functions.
If VocaScene receives information from Google APIs or WeChat login, we use it only to provide user-facing sign-in, account, and product functionality. We do not sell authentication provider data, use it for advertising, or transfer it except as needed to provide, secure, or comply with the service.
Audio transcription is only started after the user clicks the no-subtitle listening control. Realtime audio is processed by the transcription provider to return text; VocaScene does not intentionally store raw tab audio.
Chrome Extension Permissions
The extension requests the minimum permissions needed for its purpose: selected-text lookup, subtitle translation overlays, local token storage, user-started tab audio capture, and communication with VocaScene.
The extension does not run remote code. It may call remote APIs to authenticate the user, translate text, create temporary transcription sessions, and save vocabulary.
Retention and Deletion
Account and learning data are kept while the account is active. Operational logs and usage events are kept for security, debugging, and billing analysis. Users can request deletion of account data by contacting support.
You can disconnect the Chrome extension at any time by clearing the extension token from the popup or removing the extension from Chrome. You can also stop tab-audio transcription at any time from the extension popup.

VocaScene is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact support so we can review and delete it where required.
